Jean Mermoz bust by Alexandre Kéléty (1874-1940). Patinated bronze and marble base.

Jean Mermoz (1901-1936) was a french aviator that worked for the French Air Force and later on for Aéropostale (formally, Compagnie générale aéropostale). He was a recognized french hero and a very well known commercial aviator. He disappeared during his last flight due to a technical problem on his plane, he knew about the problem but after a quick repair he decided that he had had lost enough time. On 1941 after some denunciations, it was established that the death of Jean Mermoz was the result of sabotage of the Nazi Fifth Column (National German Socialist Workers Party operating in Uruguay).
